Planting the seeds: A look at the Fifth and Sixth District tournament positioning right now

While all the snow and ice that fell across the region forced several games to be canceled, all teams across the region lost a week worth of preparation for the postseason. Believe it or not the district tournaments are fast approaching--set to played in about a month. With a few district games left, here's a list of how a team can finish at a certain place in the Fifth and Sixth districts. (NOTE: district opponents in in-season tournaments do not count toward district record)

5TH DISTRICT BOYS

CURRENT PROJECTION

Crittenden County (4-10, 0-5 District Five)

  • Forced to take the fourth and last seed
Livingston Central (11-8, 3-2)
  • Cannot secure top seed (Lyon and Trigg hold tie-breaker)
  • 2nd seed: With win over Crittenden and Lyon loss to Trigg
  • 3rd seed: Loss to Crittenden 
  • 3rd seed: Win over Crittenden but Lyon beats Trigg 
Lyon County (3-10, 3-2)
  • Top seed: Beats Trigg
  • 2nd seed: Loses to Trigg but Livingston loses to Crittenden 
  • 3rd seed: Loses to Trigg and Livingston loses to Crittenden 
Trigg County (9-6, 4-1)
  • Top seed: Beats Lyon
  • 2nd seed: Loses to Lyon 

5TH DISTRICT GIRLS

  • 2nd seed: Beats Union twice but loses to Webster second time while the Trojans beat Union again as well
  • 2nd seed: Loses to Union twice but beats Webster in second meeting 
  • 3rd seed: Lose all remaining three district games 
  • 3rd seed: Beats Union first time but drops final two games in district play 
Union County (7-9, 0-1)
  • Top seed: Win final three district games 
  • Top seed: Loses to Henderson first time but wins final two district games while both Union and Henderson finish 2-2 in district play 
  • 2nd seed: Loses to Henderson twice but beats Webster second time and the Trojans lose at least one district game 
  • 2nd seed: Beats Henderson twice but loses to Webster second time

  • 3rd seed: Beats Henderson first time but loses final two district games

Webster County (16-4, 2-0)

  • Top seed: Win next two district games
  • Top seed: Beats Union second time, loses to Henderson, but Henderson falls to Union at least once 
  • Top seed: Beats Henderson second time, loses to Union, but Union loses to Henderson at least once 
  • 2nd seed: Drop final two district games but Henderson and Union split 
  • 3rd seed: Lose next two district games and Union sweeps Henderson
  • 3rd seed: Lose next two district games and Henderson sweeps Union

Girls basketball power rankings: Week Six

1. Webster County Lady Trojans (15-4)  Webster County is starting to click on all cylinders...especially defensively. The Lady Trojans limited Caldwell County to just 11 points after the first quarter in a 58-27 win on Saturday afternoon, and Webster has now won 11 out of its last 12 games. Webster County will host district rival Henderson County on Tuesday night--a team the Lady Trojans defeated 59-46 back on Dec. 23 in the Owensboro Invitational Tournament. 2. Hopkinsville Lady Tigers (14-4)  Hoptown has now won six out of its last seven games, and the Lady Tigers will face two major tests this week with district rival Christian County on Tuesday night at home and a road game at Graves County on Friday night.
